It's a fantastic choice for content creators as you won't have to calibrate it. It has exceptional accuracy before calibration thanks to its outstanding sRGB mode that you can only access with a MacBook or any other Mac computer. Considering it's an Apple monitor, it has features that you can only get with a macOS device. While the Studio Display has fewer features, like the lack of HDR, it's still a great monitor. It's the cheaper alternative to the Apple Pro Display XDR, which is targeted at professional editors. The Apple Studio Display is the best monitor for MacBook Pro that we've tested. If you're still looking for a MacBook and unsure which one to buy, check out the best Apple laptops and MacBooks. Also, check out our recommendations for the best work monitors, the best monitors for photo editing, and the best monitors for Mac Mini. We've bought and tested more than 275 monitors, and below are our recommendations for the best displays for MacBook Pro and MacBook Air to purchase. The results are also valid for any MacBook, including the MacBook Air, or if your MacBook uses the newer M2 chip. We test monitors' macOS compatibility with the 2021 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip via USB-C or a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter. While macOS is optimized for use with monitors that have high pixel density - around 220 PPI, which is the same as a 27-inch, 5k display - you can use your MacBook with any resolution and size, but keep in mind that the higher resolution and pixel density, the better text clarity is. Although you may think you need a monitor that supports Thunderbolt to be compatible with your MacBook, most monitors with USB-C ports support DisplayPort Alt Mode, which is less bandwidth and power than Thunderbolt, but still works with MacBooks. Depending on your MacBook, you can connect to any monitor via HDMI or a USB-C to HDMI adapter, but some monitors have USB-C ports that make it easy to connect to any MacBook. The Studio Display is available for preorder now and ships tomorrow, March 18th.If you have a MacBook and want to get an external monitor to give you more screen space, plenty of good options are available. If you're looking for a similar, slightly more affordable display, you can buy the LG's UltraFine 5K monitor ($1,297)- but not from Apple, who conveniently removed them from its store now that the Studio Display is out in the world. The Studio Monitor is truly the perfect partner for the Mac you already have (or for the also-just-announced Mac Studio, should you get that beast), but it might not be worth it for people who have already invested heavily in an expensive desktop speaker system, external webcam and mic. And the Studio Monitor only comes in one color - silver - so it might not match perfectly with your space gray MacBook Pro or gold MacBook Air. (I needed one to upload photos from my SD card, for example.) There's also no headphone jack, either, so if you use wired headphones, you'll have to connect them directly through your Mac. It has three USB-C ports, plus one Thunderbolt for connecting to your Mac - meaning you'll likely have to get an adaptor or a docking station to connect some of your peripherals. Aside from price, one of the only gripes I have with the Studio Monitor is that its port selection leaves a little to be desired.
